Toxic China Plastic?, After using the same programmable Mr. Coffee for many years, I was dismayed to find it was no longer made. I did find one at a yard sale for $4 and have been using it for the last 4 years, but...finally decided to go ahead and splurge for a new one.
I found this cute red Mr. Coffee that had a separate pour lid, programmable etc. just like the old one. I brought it home, washed it out, and ran a pot of water as per the instructions.
This morning I ran the first pot of coffee thru, employing the 'strong' option, anticipating how good my coffee would taste with '97% less chlorine' from the water filter, and poured the first cup..which tasted great for about 15 seconds, until I processed the bitter aftertaste! My hubby just spit his first cup out. Thinking it was the filter, I dumped the first pot (made with freshly ground, very expensive coffee, I might add!) and ran a second, without the filter. Same result--a terrible bitter chemical aftertaste.
I examined the coffeemaker,and noticed a very 'hot plastic' smell coming from the lid area, which explained where the chemical taste is coming from.
That is when I went online to check reviews and Viola--Bitter Plastic Aftertaste! And a good many reviews complaining that it only lasted 6 months, too.
Shame on me for buying without reading the reviews first.
This is really scary, if it is a hazard to take a shower with toxic plastic, or microwave in it, what toxic chemicals are we ingesting from this coffeemaker? As it is made in China, who knows what it is made of--we have seen the recalls over and over for unsafe materials.
Too bad the guy Sunbeam hired to revive the company in the 90's didn't leave the little plant right here where I live, but sold it off, put thousands of Americans out of work, and then took his bonus of millions of dollars and went on to 'save' another company.
I will now be looking for a Made in America coffeepot..wish me luck. Until then, I will be using my $4 yard sale Mr.
Didn't last!, This is the third time I have purchased this model coffee maker and each time they lasted less time than the last. This time I purchased in Nov. 2010 and it just quit working Aug. 2011. The first one lasted a year and a half. Not great but I was ok enough with that time frame that I purchased a second one. That one only lasted a year. I was hoping this third one with newer features (and yes I couldn't resist the gorgous red color that matches all my other counter top appliances) would last. Sorry to say that I will not buy another Mr. Coffee coffee maker again. Even in gorgous red.
Would NOT recommend!!!, Bought it from Target without reading the reviews first. Would defiantly NOT recommend this product for the following reasons: 1. The coffee comes out warm and if you put the milk straight from the fridge its tastes like its been sitting there for hours. 2. Coffee just doesn't taste too good in the machine. 3. The clock is unnecessary too bright therefore we have to unplug it after we use it- a nuisance I think. 4. Is too bulky and takes too much counter space. Do yourself a favor- spend money on smth that's actually is worth it.

Pouring water in the reservoir is a pain, too narrow an opening
Got some condensation the clock window and it crapped out, dead.
Gotta get a new coffee maker again...
Fast Brew, Annoying Beep..., I purchased the Mr. Coffee EJX36 approximately 8 months ago. There are a few things this model has going for it. It brews relatively fast, doesn't leak, and has a very attractive design. My only complaints are that (1) like other reviewers, it just doesn't get the coffee hot enough and (2) it has a really annoying, high-pitched beeeeeep, beeeeeep, beeeeeep that signals the end of the brewing cycle. I get up before the rest of my household with the sole purpose of having a few minutes of quiet time before the melee begins. This beep just isn't cohesive with that goal. Alas, my Mr. Coffee EJX36 just died this morning, possibly through no fault of its own (power surge due to lightening), although every other electronic device in my house is working just fine. You can imagine my dismay when I pushed the "brew" button and all it would do is beeeep, beeeeep, beeeep at me.
Mr Coffee lives up to his name ~, (What's this?) Considering myself Mrs Coffee I am very pleased with this purchase. Quality workmanship and makes amazing coffee. My favorite maker ...ever.
