Capresso 440.05 MT-500 10-Cup Electronic Coffeemaker with Thermal Carafe Purchased another after several years, (What's this?)
Only one little complaint, I'm very happy with the coffee I'm getting from this coffee maker and am very picky about my coffee, grind it fresh every pot, etc. I'm especially pleased it does keep it hot enough for the two of us to have hot coffee even though we often pour our first cups an hour apart - which was my impetus for upgrading to thermal carafe. However, it's quite awkward to pour the water into the tall water recepticle and simultaneously watch the water fill to the right capacity marker, partly because of design and partly because the numbers are SO SMALL. Somehow we manage though and I recommend in spite of the steep cost.
Capresso Coffeemaker, (What's this?) Have really enjoyed the coffeemaker. Like that it is automatic, can brew just 3-5 cups and it still taste good. It seems more like a commercial coffeemaker than for residential.
Capresso pot lid is defective, I like this pot, it brews a great pot when it's all cleaned out ( I use baking soda, some Borax and a scrubby brush), but the carafe lid does not come apart for cleaning and is clearly filled with coffee gunk. I shake it and brown gunk comes out, but I'm sure there's some left in there that is then dripping into my coffee. Please fix this lid, make the whole thing easy to clean with no hidden gunk places.
The price was steep for a partial stainless, partial plastic machine.
A fine machine, (What's this?) Purchased this unit to replace 8 year old Capresso machine. Fully expect the same quality of performance from this one, and so far I'm very pleased.
Best Coffee brewer in local solar system, Everything about this coffee maker is superior. One reviewer is put off by screw-down lid on carafe. Wrong. There is simply no other way to correctly seal such a superior carafe. It may be a little more trouble than a simple flapper, but it ensures that the vacuum-thermos carafe will keep your coffee hot and tasting fresh-brewed for hours on end. Coffee made at 6:30 am on Saturday morning is still too hot to gulp when I return from Saturday activities around 2:00 pm and tastes almost as good as the moment it was brewed. That's the only day of the week the pot isn't drained within a couple of hours...needless to say, _that_ coffee is perfect to the last drop.
The carafe also has near perfect balance. Unlike awkward straight sided pots/carafes, it can be held vertical or poured with no effort or strain on your wrist.
If Apple made a coffee maker . . . ., (What's this?) Swiss small appliance manufacturer with Swiss design and precision engineering through and through. This machine makes coffee faster than a Bunn pre-heated water machine. Ten cups of really hot coffee in under 8 minutes - truly amazing. Wonderful, well thought design - they even put rubber feet on the bottom of the stainless steel carafe.
If you buy DO NOT order the "Amazon suggests" gold tone filter and charcoal filters. The machine ships with the gold tone filter and the owner's guide says the charcoal filter is for chlorine in tap water. Since this is a serious coffee drinker's machine, you're likely using quality water.
a suprise failure, (What's this?) This product makes good coffee and keeps it drinkable in the stainless carafe. We like all of that! We left the carafe partially full when we went to sleep and the following morning our house guest made the morning pot. He was unaware the carafe was partially full and when he added his amount of water it exceeded the carafe's capacity and the liquid spilled on the computer pad causing the unit to shut down. After a drying out period the unit started to work again. Bewildered about all this and would caution users to this potential problem.
Shockingly still going . . ., I just searched my review on the Capresso 440 done years ago on Amazon, and found it. It was September 6, 2002. I had owned it for just over a month then. It is shocking to realize that we are still using the same machine, every day, including weekends, for over 8 years now, and it is still going ... . Over 3000 uses. We have lost the charcoal filter years ago and never replaced it, but we do use Arrowhead spring water. The coffee tastes great. We never program it any more, since electricity frequently goes out in La Canada, California, where we live, and that messes up the programming. My wife sets the coffee and filter at night and she just pushes the "on" button when she wakes up in the morning. By the time I wake up, the coffee is ready. It is hot, though I should admit it is not piping hot as you find it at Starbucks. Once or twice a month, we let plain water brew inside the coffeemaker to clean it up. The stainless steel inside the carafe looks a little darkened, but that is expected to happen after 8 years of use, but the coffee tastes great. Good investment.Capresso 440.
Makes good coffee, but design is flawed in a number of ways, (What's this?) I had the old Coffetec for nine years -- it was marvelous, though it did leak on occasion, but even so it was the best coffeepot I ever owned. It finally died this year and we replaced it with the 440.05 MT-500. I do think this machine makes good coffee, and it gets very hot, but -- the design of the machine is flawed, and we have had one problem after another:
* The carafe leaks unless the little ball is perfectly lined up with the spout -- and even leaks when it is at times. This is clearly a design flaw; it should be harder to spill coffee; or, I should say, it shouldn't be so *easy* to spill.
* The filter assembly that is supposed to hold the coffee while you pull the carafe away doesn't work. It's almost funny to watch it continue pouring at full speed when you pull the carafe away. This is not a big deal as you likely want the full pot to brew before taking it, but if you are sleepy and don't realize ... time for the paper towels.
Stainless-steel vacuum carafe keeps coffee hot up to 4 hours.Brews up to 10 5-ounce cups in just 8 minutes for maximum flavor, aroma.Stainless-steel ThermoBlock heating system reduces calcification.Brew-pause for mid-brew pour; digital, programmable clock/timer.Measures 9-3/4 by 13-3/4 by 10 inches; 1-year warranty. Employing a stainless-steel vacuum carafe instead of a warming plate, this 1,200-watt coffeemaker brews up to ten 5-ounce cups in just 8 minutes for maximum flavor and aroma, and the carafe then keeps the coffee hot for 4 hours. The carafe prevents coffee from turning bitter, as it can when sitting on a warming plate, and doesn't have to remain with the machine for coffee to stay hot. To reduce calcification, Capresso's stainless-steel ThermoBlock system prevents water from contacting aluminum inside the machine. Other features: a digital, programmable, 24-hour clock/timer that makes it possible to have coffee ready in the morning; an automatic pause when the carafe is removed during the brewing process for a quick pour; a charcoal water filter to remove up to 83 percent of the chlorine in tap water; an electronic indicator to show when the water filter needs replacing; a setting for brewing three to five cups without diluting flavor and aroma; a permanent Gold Tone filter; automatic shutoff after brewing; an external water-level indicator; and concealed cord storage.
