Luckily, I bought via Amazon, and the Amazon return process was absolutely painless.
Great at first, (What's this?) I bought this a year ago and really liked it. Then yesterday the handle fell of and it is not fixable! We did use it a lot, but it should have lasted for more than a year.
Pleased with my glass teakettle, I don't drink tea, but I bought this to get boiled water without the hassle of getting out a pot, and then having to clean it up when done. I love the glass carafe, we had a metal one before and it kept getting pieces off the lining in the water. So I like being able to see what is in your water. The water boils in a very time efficient manner, and it looks nice sitting on the counter.
Jury is still out, (What's this?) The first kettle I received worked great for about 3 weeks then suddenly stopped heating water. When the button was pushed, the blue light would come on, but heating would not start and after about a minute the light would switch off. No idea what the problem was, but Amazon was EXCELLENT to deal with to exchange for a new kettle. I have had the second one for ~ 3 weeks now. Still working so far, fingers crossed.
As to the plastic smell that some people report. I could certainly detect it in the product when unpackaged. I boiled a few pots of water with white vinegar prior to first making coffee and have not found there to be any detectable "off" plastic/chemical smells that I can detect. As long as this keeps working, I'll be happy.
Kettle, (What's this?) I love my Capresso Kettle, I use it everyday. My tea tastes perfect now that I can get it the right temp.
Love it, (What's this?) The water is hot by the time I have my coffee ground and situated in the Aeropress. The temperature settings with automatic shutoff are so handy. And somehow I got a great deal at $52. Perfect.
The only downside is deposits build up very quickly on the chrome heating element when I use filtered tap water. No matter. Who knows what the inside of my old kettle looked like.
Worked great, until it completely fell apart..., I bought the Capresso Perfect Tea Kettle a little over a year ago. It worked beautifully for a year. No problems with weird smells or bad heating elements as mentioned in other reviews. We have by no means misused this product, however about two months ago, the handle started to become deformed and would not close properly. We tried tightening the screws but the plastic around them had melted so badly, we were unable to tighten them. It seems the place where the steam escapes is right there at the fulcrum for the lid, so not only does it melt that section, but as you pour the hot water, the steam aims directly towards your hand.
Now, the lid has completely broken off, and the portion thats supposed to run flush against the glass down to the base has detached all along the side. Its unusable.
Not worth purchasing if planned obsolescence is the case, especially considering the kettle fell apart conveniently right after the 1 year warranty.

have a plastic smell when heated. A friend recommended this
model and I am more than pleased with it. I have not detected
a smell and the temperature function works well. It's nice to
have an excellent cup of green tea.
Have used this over the past month and it works flawlessly, (What's this?) My previous Capresso Glass Kettle conked out after several years of daily use (minimum of three times per day). I read the reviews about this product having a bad smell in the kettle and was concerned, but still went ahead with the purchase.
From day one we have not had a single problem. My wife loves the different temperature settings and we have not had any bad smells from the kettle. Capresso must have fixed the problem. I recommend this to anyone looking for a great kettle with beautiful lines.
