It's ok, that's all, just ok., (What's this?) This product works as intended. It is a somewhat difficult installation. The average homeowner may not be able to install without some knowledge of small power tools, as well as some improvisation.
Failed in 4 days, (What's this?) I have owned three SDC740 coffee makers; each one successively worse than other. First lasted 4 years. Second: 10 months.
Very poor design, I replaced a 15 yr old B&D coffee maker with this hoping to benefit from new technology and engineering. WRONG! First, it's impossible to fill with water without spilling it all over the place. Secondly, even after filling the unit, it leaks water all over the counter during the first few minutes of brewing. Lastly, it is SLOW to brew a pot of coffee. Oh... it has a little green light that is on all the time that wastes energy. I wish I still had the old one.
Don't buy this coffee maker!, Don't buy this coffee maker. I have owned three or four spacemaker coffeemakers in the past and have been fairly happy with them. This one is total junk.
First the installation directions are terrible. If you have a cabinet that has a little lip on it (like most cabinets do), you will have to customize the install for the coffee maker to work. I had to cut a piece of wood to take up space so the coffee maker could be installed. Within a month or two the clock stopped keeping time accurately. It would lose about 15 min. a day. I called Black & Decker and had to send the unit back. It was a huge hassle and they were very unhelpful.
I got the replacement unit, and it has worked for just over a year. Now the unit is completely dead no clock, no power, no coffee. I am very unhappy with this purchase and was a complete waste of money. I don't know why making a coffee maker is so hard.
The controls are in strange positions, once you install the maker you can't remove it. It would have been helpful if the screws for the coffee maker were in the same position as past coffeemakers. I have holes all over my From installing the space maker coffeemakers. Customer service is unhelpful. For as much money as we spend on these coffeemakers they should last more than a year. I won't buy another one.
Leaks water out overnight., (What's this?) DO NOT BUY OR GIVE TO YOUR WORSE ENEMY.
This is the 2nd undercounter B&D coffeemaker I have had. Like other people, the old design worked great for many years, before burning up.
This B&D product has been poorly designed, bulky, leaks overnight from the water container from day 1, and unsightly. Do not buy this product if you are sane. Piece of junk.
Replaced with another brand.
Very nice, (What's this?) I have had the coffeemaker for about a month. So far have had no problems. Makes a good cup of coffee. This is my third undercounter. Had the original for over 16 years. B&D no longer makes old model.
Great Coffee Maker, (What's this?) I replaced my 20+ year old spacemaker with this new one and I am very happy with it. It is true that it does not fit in the old mounting holes and the template that comes with it is off.
Excellent Buy!!, (What's this?)
RV replacement unit, (What's this?) Great product,Black & Decker did their homework. They simplify the installation with the removable mounting plate and gave it a lower profile over the older unit. Water level indicater light is bright and makes it easy to see how much coffee you are going to make.
Very disappointing, (What's this?) After having a good B&D under the counter coffee maker for many years, we moved and left it behind. Thinking that a new B&D under the counter unit would be the best, we ordered one for the new home. After installation of this really large unit, we noticed that it was very slow in brewing the coffee compared to the old unit. In addition, it is so large that there is really little usable counter space under it. We have been using the unit daily for a year now and are not happy. In addition to the slow brewing that never improved, in order to clean the carafe in the dishwasher, the flip top must be removed. Over the past year, this removal on a daily basis has caused the anchor pin retainers on the plastic top to become very worn so the top now just falls off when you tip the carafe. Also, the plastic top has very fine cracks in it (like crazing) which will undoubtedly cause it to fall off the glass container. I spoke with B&D support and they pointed out the warranty did not apply to the carafe at all and I would have to buy a new one. The cost of the new carafe "assembly" plus shipping (over $30) would be half of what I originally paid for the whole unit, so I did not opt for this "solution". I now notice that the white unit is no longer available on the B&D WEB site. I wonder why? My solution to the problem will be to use the unit a bit more until the cracking is worse, then junk it and get a Mr. Coffee for $20.

More than just a space-saving convenience, the coffeemaker comes with an array of user-friendly features for brewing up to 12 cups of great-tasting coffee. Its clock and timer allow for programming the unit to begin brewing at a later time--great for wake-up coffee in the morning or having a pot ready to serve with dessert without having to get up from the table half way through dinner. For those eager for that first sip, the unit's Sneak-A-Cup interrupt function pauses the brewing cycle to allow for pouring a quick cup midbrew. Coffee brews directly into the unit's Perfect Pour glass carafe, which provides a generous stay-cool handle and a drip-free spout. Other highlights include a removable filter basket, a removable water reservoir with an illuminated water-level indicator window, a nonstick heating plate, cord storage, and automatic shut-off for peace of mind. At least two of the mounting holes are the same as the original (ODC) coffeemaker to facilitate simple upgrades, and its Save-a-Plug outlet makes it possible to connect a SpaceMaker Mini Food Processor/Grinder or Can Opener directly into the coffeemaker, saving the wall outlet for other uses. The coffeemaker measures approximately 12-3/5 by 12 by 15-1/2 inches.
