De'Longhi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker I'd buy it again, (What's this?) Reviews for De'Longhi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker (Kitchen) I'd thrown away my typical drip coffee maker and switched to espressos from the classic stove top moka pots. I began sampling from friends' machines only to be left unimpressed. On a lark, my wife added this machine to an order (only needed $5 to reach super-saver shipping, but oh well). It has produced tasty espressos with great creme daily for the last 3 months.
A few tricks help...
It was opened and used one!!!, I was looking forward to receiving this espresso maker. But when it arrived, I found out there was water inside the water chamber and inside the plastic bag that wrapped the product!!! There was no way water could get inside the plastic bag without leaving any water mark outside the box. The box was clean and outside of the plastic bag was clean. It was definitely opened and used one. How could you AMAZON send a customer a used product for the price of new one?. My experience with Amazon was very good until now. I cannot believe it happened. I am calling the customer service right now....OK...
---- I just called the customer service and I only heard that they will resend the item and let me return this already USED product back to them. I wanted to hear Amazon's explanation about "the water in the water chamber situation" but there was no person who could reasonably explain this situation.
Good for what it is, but don't count on the rebate, (What's this?) Reviews for De'Longhi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker (Kitchen) Product arrived quickly and was in good shape. Warms much faster than instruction manual indicates. True that there is very little clearance for espresso cups and my Bodum glass ones bounce around like crazy so I have to hold them in place. Frother is not super strong but I get hot milk. One issue I had is that I cannot cash in the $20 rebate because Amazon did not include a sales receipt in the package. So much for saving $20. This would have been a great machine at $59.99 but it is only good at $79.99.
Great espresso is Not That Complicated, (What's this?) Reviews for De'Longhi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker (Kitchen) I purchased this after researching as many machines as I could, reading many of the reviews/comments/complaints, and decided this would be a best purchase of my first espresso machine. I like espresso, it's just gone to soon after you make it, even if you savor the flavor and stretch it out as long as you can. So I also make mugs of strong coffee so I can sit and enjoy. This machine makes both great. The flavor and strength of my first espresso was far better then any I ever had at a *bucks. I had to experiment with the grind and tamping because I too was getting watery pucks at first. Like another reviewer, I found it's all in the grind and the tamp pressure. I have a capresso burr grinder with 8 settings in the fine to extra fine range. I tried all of them. To fine and it would not make coffee, less fine and would have great coffee but a watery puck. less fine yet and the proper tamp pressure, and it was perfect. Of my fine settings it was about in the middle. BUT, it was also in the tamp...Until I got the Terry's tamper, I couldn't get it tamped firm enough to use the fineest grind that I wanted. Now I have the proper grind marked on my grinder, fill the double filter with two scoops, tap it to settle it, tamp it, refill to the rim, tamp etc. until full. Put it on the machine, brew for 15-25 seconds and its done. Rich, strong espresso, wonderful aromatic crema, dry solid puck.
Now if I want coffee, I just brew a double and a single, put it in a mug, add hot water to the top, and enjoy a creamy, flavorful, aromatic coffee with no bitterness or acidity, almost as thick as chocolate milk. To speed things up if I have guests, or if I want several cups, I ordered three more filters from partstore.com for 12 bucks each. I pre fill them and can make four double shots in a row.
Great value in an espresso machine!, I purchased this machine about 2 months ago after spending almost a month reading product descriptions and reviews for a multitude of machines in the 'up to $700' price range. I brew, on average, four double shots per day. I don't use the steam wand so no comments regarding it. For under a hundred bucks I got the De'Longhi EC155, a 'Terrys Tamper' and two thermal double shot glasses. If this machine lasts for a year I will be absolutely satisfied with it. I use only distilled water, I don't expect to ever use descalers. I don't use the built in tamper. I believe that the EC155 meets the temperature and pressure requirements for a manual pump machine. The critical elements in brewing a good shot are: the beans, the grind and the tamp. I'm sure that it's very easy to pull a really bad shot with a $700 manual machine. I suspect that there is way too much that can go wrong with a fully automatic machine. With good fresh beans, a burr grinder and a firm level tamp I get a consistently excellent shot with a thick creamy head.
AMAZING, Brilliant espresso machine for the price, really surprising. Only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because of the small clearance between nozzle and tray, meaning you sometimes have to be inventive with certain cup sizes, but that's no reason not to buy it - more like 4.5 stars.
Little cute coffee machine, (What's this?)
didn't last long, (What's this?) Reviews for De'Longhi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker (Kitchen)
i had the Delonghi ec140 before i purchased the ec 155 in sept 2010. The ec 140 lasted about a year and a half but i kept it on for hours at a time and later learned that it burns out the boiler. I bought the ec155 and didn't keep it on any longer than needed to make the espresso. I was out of town for 8 months of the 13 months I had it so it lasted 5 months at 2 uses per day and it died 2 months past warranty. The coffee is great the frother works great but it doesn't last long. Not getting another Delonghi.
Satisfied, I think this maker makes a good espresso. It provides a lot of "crema" on the top without any difficulty. I do not use the press on the side as it seems awkward, instead I use a hand presser. I do not use the steamer often. Does not seem you can get a frother mug underneath easily. Several drawbacks, one mentioned in other reviews is the low height (~2 1/2") of the cup which can be used underneath. I know it's not a coffee maker and is probably designed for a demitasse only. A second drawback is the vibration of the machine when the pump is on. When I first used the machine I could not figure out what all the noise was. Some silverware about 2 feet away on the counter were clanking and the cup on the maker vibrated off the stand. The vibration is most significant before the espresso starts coming from the maker. Need to cushion under the cup.
