professional coffee maker that wasn't !, what a nightmare, we received the viking coffee maker the day before thanksgiving 11/23 i tell you
a beautiful machine to look at chrome front, digital display, beautiful carafe nice grey housing very
durable. first of all make sure that when you put it on your counter you have sufficient clearance on
the right side of the coffee maker,(at least 12 inches) because both the water resevoir tank and the
coffee basket pullout sideways from left to right in our case every time we made coffee we had to turn the machine.
now the coffee, the machine is very loud as it pumps the water into the filter basket ( like a moose in heat!!),
what you get is coffee that is not any hotter than my hotel room coffee maker produces,(they claim i think the
temperature is over 200 degrees farenhiet, my thermometer measured about 170 at best) and the coffee, using
gourmet coffee, illy, dunkin, starbucks is mediocre at best. and believe me the thermal carafe does not keep the coffee
very hot for very long about 15 or 20 minutes you have luke warm coffee. now the best part is on 12/9 just 16 days after delivery
the machine broke ,the computer went haywire we tried to make 5 cups of coffee it only dripped 1 cup of warm water wasting expensive
coffee grinds the very loud pump went silent and whatever water pumped into the filter basket would not drip down into the carafe.
this machine does not help the VIKING name (a tradition of wonderful commercial appliances). it is a piece of junk.
i tell you fellow consumers out there all you get in an expensive coffee maker is some beauty,no substance.save your
money, today there are alot of coffee makers out there that look good and make a decent cup of coffee for 1/3 of the price.
This coffee makers not for everybody, I used this coffee maker twice and am packing it up to give away. For a $300 coffee maker, it has a lot of problems.
The only redeeming feature is that it's made in the US.
1) The coffee in the carafe only stays hot for about an hour, then you have to microwave the rest.
2) It is noisy during the brewing process. Water pump sounds. It doest't brew any faster than a $30 coffee maker.
3) The side access to the water container and coffee grounds require a spacious area in the kitchen.
4) It's simply too large.
Not worth buyi, We bought this in December 2010. It has been a total disappointment. Very often it overflows and dumps coffee all over the counter and floor and backs up into the brewer. We have sent it back to Viking and it did the same thing after brewing four pots. It seems this is a common problem with this item. I can't understand why Frontgate or Amazon would keep selling it. $300.00, and a total waste. It will be at the curb as soon as we find a replacement. Bye $300.00.
PRETTY BUT NOT A QUALITY PRODUCT,
+LOOKS GREAT
+STOPS BREWING WHEN YOU PULL POT OUT
+BREWS HOT WATER OR COFFEE
+PULL OUT FOR WATER IS EASY AND MUCH LESS MESSIER THAN TRYING TO DUMP THE POT IN THE TOP OF A MAKER
-EXTREMELY LOUD
-SMALL GRINDS GET INTO THE COFFEE (ALSO NOTICED THAT IN THE REVIEWS BEFORE I BOUGHT IT)
-POT DOES NOT KEEP COFFEE/WATER HOT FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR...IT STAYS LUKEWARM FOR QUITE AWHILE
-TOP OF POT HAS TO BE UNSCREWED TO GET COFFEE OUT (AND IT'S HOT RIGHT AFTER BREW)
-IF YOU DON'T SCREW THE TOP ON ALL THE WAY (EVEN JUST A TAD OFF) BEFORE BREW...YOU HAVE WATER EVERYWHERE!
STOVE AND OVEN WORK GREAT BUT VIKING JUST DOES NOT MAKE ANY SMALL KITCHEN APPLIANCE VERY WELL. I HAVE THE TOASTER $299, BLENDER $99, AND NOW THIS FOR $299 (YES I FEEL STUPID AS THIS IS NO SURPRISE)! THEY ALL SEEM CHEAP COMPARED TO ANY OTHER APPLIANCE THAT I HAVE HAD. SIMPLY DOESN'T COMPARE TO THE CHEAPER PRODUCTS THAT I HAVE HAD OVER THE YEARS.
There's not much to like about this coffee maker, Things I hate about this coffee maker:
1) it's big and heavy
2) it's noisy (sounds like something you'd hear in a mechanic's garage)
3) coffee leaks out all over the counter if the lid isn't on just right when pouring
4) water and filter baskets load from the side
5) have to be very careful when pushing in the filter basket or else you'll get tan-colored water when it's done brewing.
but the thing I hate the most:
6) IT DOESN'T KEEP THE COFFEE HOT FOR VERY LONG! It's great if you drink one or two cups right away, but if you want to go back 2 or 3 hours later for another cup, you're going to have to stick your cup in the microwave if you want it hot.
I gave it 2 stars for the fact that it brews the coffee fast.
Unfortunately, my husband gave this to me as a gift and I have to figure out a way to tell him how much I hate it and that I just want to go back to the Krups that we've had for years. I'm not impressed by the name or the price of a coffee maker. Does it brew a good cup of coffee and does it stay hot for up to 4 hours, that's all I care about.
Best Coffee Maker I have ever had, This one is by far the Best Coffee Maker I have ever had, I read all the reviews and still went ahead and bought it, It was beautiful when you open up, you do need to study a little, it's a better coffee maker then other brand so they are some programing you need to lern; took me about 20 minutes to learn how to set time and program, the coffee was so good that I did't even know it's possible, keeps hot for 2 hours +. no leak or anything, I'll follow up with updates and video.
After 2 weeks. Still working very well, great coffee, no drip at all, kept me countertop clean and beautiful. this machine use very good quality parts.
OK at best, So I got this bad boy b/c I needed a new 12 cup thermos coffee maker after I dropped my (Mr. Coffee... hmmm... one sec, gotta find that one... got it!) Cuisinart; the plain Jane one w/ just the time and auto-brew feature. Once I saw the name, actually a suggestion from my wife, I was all forms of excited. That was until the next morning. Actually let me start w/ the pros:
Pros
1. water reservoir tank - much easier than trying to dump a coffee pot of water into it especially w/ the cabinets above the counter
2. coffee come's out at the perfect temp - I think I'm a coffee connoisseur, btwn 180 and 210 degs F so the beans don't burn. This is on the low end of that range
3. the coffee filter holder - comes out easy so I can fill it up near the sink... less mess in random parts of the kitchen.
4. water filter in the reservoir
5. large opening for the thermos part - easy to clean. If you got small hands you can slip them inside. Me, I got this awesome brush w/ a half-globe-like brush head. It's key for washing this pot and travel coffee cups and the such.
Cons
1. the fricking coffee doesn't stay hot very long - this drives me crazy! My wife is out early and I'm out by noon and for those five hours, the coffee becomes lukewarm. God forbid I try to have coffee any time after that. I'm nuking the coffee for a few minutes. If this was the only con, I would return it if it was w/in the 30 day period (I didn't purchase from this site, p.s.)
2. the coffee will drip out the sides if you don't line up the notch on the cap w/ the marking on the thermos. Also, if it is lined up and you try to pour too fast... but that's with all coffee pots
3. can't find the reservoir filters anywhere regarding buying new ones (quick update: amazon's got the filters... I'm so lazy!)
I'm an all day coffee drinker. The fact that the coffee doesn't stay hot, bugs the crud out of me. If you're just a morning or desert coffee drinker, this is an awesome maker. My old maker stayed hot for half the day. This one is just a bad design. I'm figuring that even thought it's a thermos, the heat escapes out the large top. I'm secretly hoping that this one will catch fire so I can go back to the old one I had.
Brewer is excellent, coffee pot is terrible!, The brewer is excellent and makes great hot coffee. The carafe is terrible. Worse carafe I've ever had. The handle appears to be plastic, the lid is really difficult to get your fingers on to remove or twist for coffee, coffee spills all over the counter when pouring if everything is not exactly right, and the coffee is cold after just 2-3 hours. Not the quality I expected in a Viking appliance. I use the brewer to make coffee then pour it into our Cuisinart carafe to keep it hot. The Cuisinart brewer leaked coffee all over the counter several times so I kept the carafe just in case.
Amazing Coffee ...but machine still needs improvement!, (What's this?) This coffee machine makes the absolute best coffee I have every had, although precision set up is a must unless you want to sip the coffee off the counter. I read the reviews before I purchased and didn't think I would have trouble since I had been warned about the placement of the pot. I now keep a flashlight in the cupboard so that I can check the alignment. We have had three spills prior to keeping the flashlight handy. We have decided that the delicious coffee makes the extra effort worth while. I do agree with others that there is too much plastic for such an expensive machine. I purchased an extra pot which is very convenient for making a second pot before the first one is finished.
Very disappointed!, We received this coffee maker as a gift in early Feb 2011. We were so excited as this coffee maker is much more expensive then we would ever buy for ourselves. We had been looking for a 12c thermal carafe that brews very hot coffee. The original coffee maker we received did not prime. We sent it back to Frontgate, who were great, and they immediately sent us a new one. The second coffee maker worked for a few months then keep flashing a dcl message which meant we were suppose to descale the coffee maker and it eventually stopped working. We sent it in to have special cleaning done and got it back about a month later. After a while the bottom of the coffee pot itself cracked. We just got our new one today (they were very good about sending another). However, it is now flashing the descaling message again. I do clean it very regularly with vinegar per the manual. I dread having to send it back again.....when I called origionally I was told it was because I live in a hard water area.....if so how come I never had a problem with any other coffee maker or appliance? I guess my option is to send it back in again for a cleaning before my warranty runs out. So disappointed in the quality of this product, especially for the money. When I called for the first cleaning they told me if I wasn't happy they'd refund my money...I don't want the money...I just want a coffee maker that works! When it does work it brews great coffee, but what good does that do if it only lasts a few months...Pretty expensive cup of coffee if you do the math! I would not recommend this product because it's reliability is awful.
