Still on the fence., OK I received this machine from the US, cause they don't sell them in Canada. Took 3 weeks for it to arrive. Unpacked it, and the first thing I notice, this thing is huge. Not a big deal, I like the design.
The reason I bought it was because of it's ability to heat the water. I am tired of having to put coffee in the microwave after brewing. I purchased the one with the stainless carafe.
Plugged it in, set the clock and filled with water. I turned it on and the track went red and said "Heating Water". Only one small issue. Nothing happened. After 10 mins, I called Bunn USA and they said obviously something was wrong. I then called Bunn Canada and they said I could ship it to them or bring it in. Lucky for me, it was a 20 min drive.
They didn't have the stainless carafe version, but they had the glass one. Same machine, different carafe. They were nice enough to give me the one with glass carafe and let me keep my stainless one as well. I thought that was a nice touch since the trouble I had been through. I took it home and this one worked. I noticed the original one has some packaging missing, so maybe I got shopped a dud by the store and they knew it was busted.
I did feel their customer service was good and there was no doubt they would sort it out. Bunn is a huge company.
So now for the machine. It definitely gets a lot hotter than other machines. I wouldn't say the coffee tastes better, cause they all do the same thing. Pour hot water over coffee grinds. I keep seeing report how it makes such a noise. I thought it was about the same as my Quisenart. The taste is good though. The timer and the auto feature are very simple to use.
If this machine continues to work like this, I would definitely give it a 5 star rating. No other machine even comes close to the heat this baby can generate. It also turns itself off after 2 hours irrespective by the way.
Love this machine, (What's this?) I absolutely love this machine. I've had it for 10 months now and have had zero issues.
It keeps the coffee hot for hours (6+, though it rarely isn't consumed before then).
On occasion it would spill during pouring do from operator haste, but over time, I have become accustomed to a no-spill pour rate.
The timer has worked flawlessly, though I usually grind freshies with the Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder, Black in the am and don't utilize this function.
I recommend buying the proper filters, (in bulk here): Pk/100 x 12: Bunn Coffee & Tea Filters (BCF/100-B) Box contains 100 Filters.
Not much else to say about this thing. It's sexy, and serves up a bonafide cup of joe. Get yourself some good beans and this pot wont disappoint.
HORRIBLE, (What's this?) I used this machine twice and packed it up! The cups brewed is not true to the coffee pot size unless you drink coffee out of very small coffee cups. I brewed 4 cups of coffee for my husband and myself and we only got 1 cup each with about a half of cup left over in the pot. Our coffee cups are the typical cup sizes so I was surprised that we did not actually get 4 cups. Also, if there is a little bit of coffee left and you want to pour it into the cup, you have to undo the pot lid and pour the coffee from the top of the coffee pot because it would not come through the spout due to the plastic lining around the top of the pot which prevents it. The only positive thing about this machine is it does brew a hot cup of coffee but that can easily be fixed by zapping the coffee in the microwave.
Bunn lament, (What's this?) We bought our first Bunn in 1997 and loved it. Unfortunatley, it crapped out a year later. We chalked it up to lemon law of averages. We bought another, and it too, crapped out at about a year. We THEN bought a low profile Bunn, then another after the first bit the dust... At this point the reader must wonder why we stick with Bunn. We stick with the brand because the coffee tastes flippin' awesome! Still... Recently, we bought the HT Phase Brew despite the reviews that users experienced the "CLE" message soon after buying it. Well, we got the "CLE" message after only a half dozen uses. We called CS and were told they'd ship a new unit right away and send us a shipping label for our junk unit. The shipping label has arrived, but a week later we are still waiting for the new unit and are still buying coffee at the local brewery. The and gas bill is getting up there. I guess we could change our habits but that would preclude the need for a coffee maker altogether. Doggonit, I never thought I'd say this, but it's to the point where I would suggest a coffee maker other than Bunn. If you want a cup of Joe, you want a cup of Joe. Bunn used to be all about that, now, not so much I guess.
Don't buy this coffee maker, On the third press of the start button, the machine stopped working. I returned the Bunn for a Cuisinart which at least makes coffee.
Great product - untill it stops working, (What's this?) I have had 5 of these machines over the last year. They are fantastic for the first several months. The phase brew makes for great tasting coffee that stays hot for hours. however, all the 5 of the HT's I have owned died within a few months. They display "CLE" stating that they require cleaning, but wont allow you to do so. The water will not heat, so the machine cannot be cleaned. I contacted Bunn, and the representative stated " I wish I could guarantee that another HT would not have the same problem that you have been having. Short of testing another machine for you here in our engineering department for a length of time, there is no possible way for me to guarantee that you will not have another problem with another brewer since there are different circumstances for each location and machine." I had a Cuisinart as well as a Senseo that both worked for years without issue, so I am not sure what conditions exist in my kitchen that kill the HT machine. They offered a replacement of the same( number 6) or a different model in which I don't care for. I have always heard Bunn made quality machines, and I know that many models likely are, but not this one. Avoid at all costs.
Good Coffee, but slow, I purchased this based on the many (mixed) reviews online.
It makes very good coffee, not bitter. Works fine. Stylish.
I had no problem with the caraffe, so maybe I got a later version. The filter holder is very well designed. It has a small internal lip for the little bit of leftover coffee to drain to. Allows you to remove the filter holder and dump in the disposal without any small drops of coffee spilling from the holder.
Only real con, is how slow it is. Really is about a 12-15 minute process for 6-8 cup brew. A little noisy, but doesn't bother me.
Great so far, (What's this?) Strong coffee, not bitter.
Looking past the issues, I am currently on my third unit (and crossing my fingers it's the last) It seems as though I had the same problem as most others. However, I must say when working this brewer does make exceptional coffee and I love the design of the unit. So although I have had problems with them in the past I do recommend this coffee maker. Also - customer service couldn't have been more helpful and understanding with the exchange/replacement process.
good brewer, (What's this?) good brewer. makes the best tasting coffee i ever had. the picture on the brewer only shows the brewing cycle though; not enough reason to send it back.
Programmable auto-start, easy to read LCD display, time-to-clean indicator, and warmer that shuts off after heating phase is complete.Brews 4 to 8 cups (20 to 40 oz).Double wall, vacuum insulated thermal carafe keeps coffee warm for up to 2 hours.3-year limited warranty.6-minute heating phase + 4-minute brewing phase = 10 minutes to better coffee.
