Unhappy Coffee Lover, I would never recommend this percolator to anyone. It was great for the first few months. Now, the coffee is lukewarm and very weak. We contacted the company and were told that we needed to clean it thoroughly after every use. We did this, and it worked for a short time, but now it is back to lukewarm and weak coffee every morning. This is obviously a very bad design. It may look nice on the counter, but it is not a reliable coffeemaker.
Love the look, price, but overall disappointing, I love products that don't think for their owners. This percolator thinks for you and gives you a coffee at just the right temp and strength as the engineer that designed it. Nerd! Different people like different strength coffee. I found the coffee from this product to be too weak with no way of adjusting it. I tried many times to increase the perc time but to no avail. I finally took out my camping percolator to finish percolating the coffee.
The perc time is fast on this unit, I have tried more grounds and even blended fine grind with coarse grind and had better luck. No instructions were in the box so I do not know if there was a recommended grind size or some secret way to increase brew time. From other reports I am guessing there is no adjustment.
I usually try to buy any product made anywhere but China but it is nearly impossible. I would buy american if one was avaialble. If anyone knows of an american made percolator, please point me out in the right direction. This was the only percolator on the shelf and I love perc'd coffee.
I'm going to return the product today.
Great coffee...for a few months, (What's this?) It made a great cup of coffee, until the cord MELTED to the unit after a few months! I figured that the people that had problems with it were probably just not caring for it correctly, but I take *very* good care of my appliances, and I'm sorry to say, this one just doesn't last.
Perfect!, (What's this?) This percolator does the job very well. It doesn't take too long to make the coffee, it is easy to clean, easy to operate and keeps the coffee hot. It makes up to 12 cups and after 5 months of use it still works perfectly. Well worth it's price.
Good Old Reliable, (What's this?) This is a sturdy traditional perculator that makes good coffee. It doesn't take long to brew and stays warm nicely without getting too strong. The chrome finish is easy to keep looking shiny and nice. I wish the cord was a little longer, but I guess the safely regulations prevent that.
Great reliable coffee maker, This baby is still going strong after 6 years. Love it, love it. Fairly quiet, just lets you know it's doing it's job when percolating. It doesn't compare to my expensive retro drip type Cuisinart, which is like the weather in New England-changeable and inconsistent. Still use the paper disk filters which seem to last forever.
Hamilton Beach percolator, This is a great pot. The cord it came with got hot and shorted out, so I used a computer cord (you probably have a few laying around), and no troubles since. Great pot, bad cord.
Fed Up!, Purchased our second Hamilton Beach percolator after the first one lost the ability to heat the coffee while perking it. Mistake. Now after less than a year - weak coffee, no matter how much or what type of grind I use. I'm sick of it and done with Hamilton Beach.
Electric Percolator, (What's this?) Hamilton Beach Stainless-Steel Electric Percolator was exactly as ordered. The service was excellent and certainly met my expectations. I most certainly would purchase additional products from Amazon.
coffee grounds everywhere, Like many of the "older" folk I like coffee brewed in a percolator. I have had a presto for many years but it finally died and I replaced it with a GE percolator which died after about 2 months. Have always had good luck with HB products so thought I would order theirs. Have only had it about 2 weeks and so far so good but after reading the reviews now wonder if it will last even a year. There is one problem that I haven't seen mentioned -- the basket that holds the grounds does not seem to drain fast enough causing the water to overflow the basket and get grounds onto the water spreader and therefore some of the grounds end up in the bottom of the pot. Also, it takes forever for the water in the basket to completely drain delaying my being able to pour the coffee. Would like to know if anyone else has this problem or if anyone has a solution.
